The Appalachian Championship Enduro Series will kick off the first round of competition on Sunday, March 26, in Ray, Ohio. The Art Mitchell Memorial Enduro is hosted by the Chillicothe Enduro Riders Association.
“This traditional time-keeping enduro has approximately 70 ground miles divided up into seven sections,” said Joe Uhrig, president of CERA. “The club members have been working hard for the past several months to cut a fair amount of new trail. As usual, the wet weather has not made it easy to work. We will evaluate the trail conditions and make adjustments as necessary on race day to make sure racers have as good of a time as possible. Some sections may be A-only depending on the weather.”
Racers should be sure to bring a scorecard holder attached to their front fender to the race. A gas trailer will be available for those who do not have a pit crew with them. Saturday night sign-up will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Race day sign-up starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 9:30 a.m.
The 2015 and 2016 ACES Champion, former AMA pro motocross racer Broc Hepler, aboard his Lunova Racing Husqvarna, will attempt to defend his championship. Zach Klamfoth, on a Sport Cycles Racing Yamaha, took second in the series last year and Robbie Jenks, aboard his Wheelsports KTM, captured third. Klamfoth won the overall in 2014, and Jenks won it in 2009. Both will be competing to reclaim the ACES championship for 2017, although Klamfoth is sitting out for the first round due to a broken foot.
Other pros for the 2017 season include 2016 Overall A Champion Billy Weaver, Darren Bigley and Brett Zofchak.
The Overall B champion, Jon Lockhart, will contend for the Overall A championship this year.
“This is our tenth season of the series,” said Kory Young, president of ACES. “Our series offers some of the best single-track in the region, mostly on private land that can’t be ridden during any other time. It’s always great to see returning riders and see new faces at each round.”
Multi-Wing is once again a presenting sponsor for the series. Appalachian Offroad Motorcycle Company joins Multi-Wing as a co-presenting sponsor this year. AOMC will offer a contingency program where all racers will get a $10 gift certificate to use at the dealership for every round they participate in. KTM and Husqvarna year-end contingencies are also available to series competitors.
Our feature Sponsors include Athens Sport Cycles, Clinton County Motorsports, Fly Racing, ICO Racing and Motorex. All of whom are returning sponsors of the series.
Associate Sponsors include Action Extreme Sports, Coppersmith Powersport, FiveSixO Graphics, Klamfoth, Inc., KRW Cycles, Pointview Cycle, Rehmert’s Kawasaki/KTM, Tri-State Powersports and Wheelsports.
“The ACES team appreciates our sponsors who support our racers,” Young said. “Thanks to their sponsorship, the series has been able to grow and reward the racers with some great year-end prizes,” Young said.
